The GXP system does not rely on a side load when adjusting bearing clearance like other systems do, but instead the left bearing is locked between the bottom bracket spindle and the left crank arm. This allows the right bearing to move freely in the axial direction on the bottom bracket spindle. This helps prevent premature wear of the bearings.
